Save Mary Lake
I'm writing this to appeal to Canadians in particular, but also to ask any of you who are interested in saving our earth for future generations to read on.
Yesterday while watching CANADA AM on CTV, I listened to an interview with Bob McMinn - an 86 year old who is so dedicated to saving Mary Lake in the Highlands area of Victoria, BC from development, that he has embraced the modern technology of Twitter and spends hours on the computer. This elderly gentleman is hoping that thousands of people will contribute just $10 to save a square metre of the delicate ecosystem that surrounds Mary Lake. He has donated $100,000 of his own funds to save this unique area. Bob has dubbed his campaign "The Power of Many".

Vancouver Island is a place near and dear to my heart. You can "own" a square metre of the Dry Coastal Douglas Fir Forest surrounding Mary Lake for just $10 and Canadian Income Tax receipts will be issued.

Technology is amazing. Here I am, learning about saving a lake just a few miles from my home, through contact in blogland. I hadn't heard about this, Sheila, but I will surely investigate. Thanks for the heads up!
