Farming and Father's Day

It's raining and has been all night so today will be a day of rest for the farmer.  He has been working so hard for so long now to get the crop planted and sprayed.  The equipment is old and needs repair often so things are much slower.  But thanks to the rain he will be able to put his feet up and relax today. Tomorrow he has an appointment with the hip replacement surgeon. He's been on the list for a year and his operation will still be months down the road. But it's time...yesterday he had the truck parked along our road as he was setting up things to get water out of the pond for spraying.  A lady stopped her vehicle and asked if he needed help because she saw him limping so badly.  That was so nice of her.

So today on Father's day a special meal is in order and we'll visit our son in his new home. The timing is easier now that it's raining.  Farming with old equipment takes time but preserving the way of life and the land is the most important goal since the farmer retired from the RCMP.  It's why we're living in Alberta and his retirement choice.  He'd rather be farming than golfing. And when it comes to holidays he'd rather be fishing than travelling.  I'm working on that!
