It's That Time of Year Again

It's that time of year again.  Every year across Canada, many of us are checking draw times before we go to bed... The round robin is over and the playoffs are going on.  Of course it's the "Tim Horton's Brier" I'm talking about.  We congregate around our televisions reliving all the fun times we spent in the rink, on the ice brushing and throwing, freezing and drawing to the pin.  In small towns across Canada curling was the winter activity for young and old and it really was a great place to socialize and have fun.  The language is something that changes as times go by.  One hears "hurry. hurry hard!" Go...go, go, go! or "Never, never, never!"  There are bumpers, ticks, biters, runbacks, rings, brushers, boards, guards, leads, seconds, thirds and skips, but just one button and just one shot rock.  I could go on and on but it's time to "Hurry Hard", grab my coffee and go cheer for the Canadian curlers.

 I'm joining Vee for her Note Card Party today. Pop by and see how talented so many of the participants are.   Thank goodness for memories of summertime in the middle of winter!  Making note cards is the perfect thing to do on a cold day in February.  I happen to have a package of blank cards so this will inspire me - I hope!

Winter Inspiration

This winter has been so long...I won't bore you with the details except to say that October 19th when our world became "white" seems a whole lot longer than four months ago.  

We have been spoiled in recent years with milder winters but this year has made up for it.  

Needless to say we're counting the months til Spring arrives sometime in May.  

Last week the snow was brilliant in the sunshine so I'll share a few pictures with you.  

 The county grader has been clearing our driveway on a regular basis so we have snowbanks that are as tall as I am...(5ft 8)

 The path to our front door seems to be getting narrower with each snowfall ...it's always a relief to get it shovelled out. It's snowing again today - what else is new?  Well, our daughter is in India now as team leader for a group of university students and because I have access to her itinerary I've been doing some armchair travelling.  I know that she will be anxious to share all the photos she's taken on the photo safari they've been on today. I have been surfing through all the images of the places they will be seeing.  I know that the students and my daughter will return with much different perspectives after their travels and educational experiences in India.  Life on the farm seems so quiet by comparison.

Quilting Again

Through our long winter especially on the days when the sun shines, I enjoy quilting and I thought that since today is sunny and bright I would share some of the projects I've completed since I last took my turn at "Show and Tell".

 I also belong to a local quilting group of volunteers who get together for four days in a row once a month to make quilts for Victim's Services, women's shelters and other people from our area.

Quilters of all ages get together to make and donate quilts and each of us has a favourite thing to do.  Some ladies are interested in cutting and piecing, others love sewing, one or two do the sandwiching process of clamping and pinning the quilt tops, batting and backing.  A group of elderly women called "The Golden Girls" come to socialize with other elderly ladies while they tie the quilts together.  There's a pot luck lunch one day and even on the other days there's somehow lunch for all to share.  

I'm grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a dedicated group of caring and dedicated women.

I've been busy organizing, sorting and trying to make sense of all the pieces of our life that have accumulated over the last years.  Winter is a perfect time to do just that.  I hope to get the chance to visit  your blogs in the next few days.  Sunshine Always!
