Quilting Days

In February it seems that I always turn to quilting. 

It seems the month to finish up projects that were started and abandoned or to try some new ideas.

Last year I was asked if I would make a Dignity Quilt 

for the Extendicare facility where my mother in law resides. 

 

There are always so many scraps and last weekend I made some "Mug Rugs".  

My aunt is moving into a care home and so I got busy and finished the lap quilt I was making for her. 

I like the random arrangement of my blocks better than the way it started out.  

Sometimes I like to play around with designs and 

this time I liked the mixed up blocks better than the precise pattern I started with.

Time to start something new - it will be years before my fabric stash is gone!

I'd like to simply refer you to Linds, a fellow blogger.  She's shared a wonderful story of how the people in Christchurch are being helped by the Student Volunteer Army.  How wonderful! Trip to the Post Office

A blogging friend pointed out that we all should appreciate each day no matter what the weather's like and she is so right.  Thanks for the good advice Bernie.  About two weeks ago we went to get the mail and I thought I'd make a mosaic showing the sights we see on the 10 mile trip.  I've always appreciated having the post office so much closer than our town is.

I WROTE A POST ABOUT THE WEATHER A COUPLE OF NIGHTS AGO.  Thanks to all who commiserated with me.  I hate to complain about anything, but a prediction of -51 with the wind chill does make me a little anxious.   It only got to minus 32 last night and the wind wasn't as strong as expected.  It wasn't nearly as cold as predicted and with a fire in the wood stove  and good movies and books to entertain us we enjoyed our inside days this weekend.  I finished the top of a lap quilt and will send it along to an elderly aunt very soon.  I made six "Mug Rugs" and I'm thinking it will be fun to use up so many odds and ends of quilting fabric that way.  They will make nice little gifts.

It's the Wind...

Another inside weekend is shaping up for us here on the farm.  It's beautifully sunny and bright and the sunshine's reflecting off the icy snow covered fields.  But the weather outside is frightful. Last night the temperature dipped to -34C and it's -32C now at 9:30 am.  Here's the Saturday forecast (in Celsius):

Thank goodness I have a lap quilt to finish 

and I'll try to get some more picture sorting done. 

Maybe I'll play with my photos in Picasa. 

It would be lovely to be back 

on Vancouver Island this weekend.
